How to Prepare for Your G2 Road Test in Mississauga
Introduction
The G2 road test is your gateway to independent driving in Ontario. Mississauga’s busy test routes challenge even skilled drivers. Our Prime Steering instructors share battle-tested strategies to help you pass on your first attempt by focusing on safe decision-making rather than just technical perfection.
Test Format & Scoring
- Duration: Expect to be on the road for approximately 20 minutes.
- Critical Errors: 0 allowed. Any dangerous action or traffic violation results in an immediate fail.
- Minor Errors: You are allowed a limit of 12 small mistakes. These include things like:
- Failing to check a blind spot during a turn.
- Ending a park with the car not perfectly straight.
- Touching a curb slightly while parallel parking.
Key Maneuvers for Longside Drive
- Parallel Parking: Usually tested on the quiet residential side streets near the Longside Drive industrial area.
- Three-Point Turn: You must demonstrate a full 360-degree observation before starting the maneuver.
- Uphill & Downhill Parking: Remember to turn your wheels toward the curb for downhill and away for uphill with a curb. Always set your parking brake!
- Forward and Reverse Parking:Be prepared for the examiner to ask for either one when you return to the DriveTest center.

📍 Longside Drive Pro Tip: > Pay close attention to the transition from the commercial warehouses to the residential zones. The speed limit often drops quickly, and examiners at this location are very strict about “Stop Line Precision”. You must come to a complete, smooth stop before the white line at every red light and stop sign to avoid a major error.
What to Bring on Test Day
- Original G1 Driver's License: It must be the physical card, not a photocopy or a photo on your phone.
- A Reliable Vehicle: Ensure your brake lights, turn signals, and horn are all working perfectly.
- Proof of Insurance & Ownership: Keep these handy in the glovebox.
- Vision Wear:Bring your glasses or contacts if your license has the "X" condition.
- 30-Minute Buffer: Arrive at the Longside Drive center at least 30 minutes early to check in and find a parking spot.
